At Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, respect for the environment and environmental sustainability are the guiding lines of action from the very beginning. Environmental sustainability, extending to the social and economic domain, is at the genesis of vineyard planting and occupies the top of the agricultural project properties. With human action reduced to a minimum, is practiced organic, sustainable and extensive agriculture.
Keeping Alentejo’s traditions alive, Malhadinha Nova produces olive oil, honey and fresh vegetables from its organic gardens and greenhouses, while raising native livestock breeds in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural environment.
Through a constant and meaningful dialogue with nature and the environment, the MicroBioWines projects, which study the impact of microbiology on winemaking processes, represent a natural step towards greater environmental sustainability.
Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is a member of the Alentejo Wines Sustainability Programme, the only programme of its kind in Portugal dedicated to implementing sustainable practices across multiple areas, including water conservation, environmental protection, working conditions and respect for the ecosystem. Malhadinha Nova was among the first ten wine producers in the country to be awarded the Sustainable Production Seal.
Further reinforcing this commitment, Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is also a member of the Portuguese Regenerative Viticulture Association – Vinha Viva, promoting regenerative farming practices that contribute to healthier soils, greater biodiversity and a more sustainable approach to viticulture, while further strengthening its commitment to quality.
The estate is also a signatory of UNESCO's Sustainable Travel Pledge, an initiative that promotes sustainable tourism, community resilience and the conservation of natural heritage.
Holder of the Biosphere Certification, which recognises sustainable practices across every aspect of its operations – from viticulture, winemaking and agriculture to hospitality – Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is also certified to the ISO 9001 standard by Bureau Veritas. This certification reinforces our ongoing commitment to excellence in both management and operational processes.
Herdade da Malhadinha Nova also became the first certified hospitality project in Portugal to achieve B Corp™ certification, taking a pioneering position within the Portuguese hospitality sector and joining a global community of companies that meet rigorous standards of verified social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.
