Breeding of Pure blood Lusitano horses

The art of breaking in and training horses is the work of Pedro Sousa, a professional horse rider.

Noble, well-adjusted, intelligent, generous and fiery. A tireless worker. Agile and versatile. Docile and hardy. These are the characteristics of the Pure Blood Lusitano, the oldest saddle horse in the world, ridden for over 5,000 years.

Considered an excellent working animal, it is also recognised for its great skill in the haute école exercises, an art form in which it has excelled internationally.

The breeding of Pure Blood Lusitano horses and the Herdade da Malhadinha Nova Stud Farm began in 2008. Alongside wine and farming, horse breeding represents the realisation of the Soares family dream.

The equestrian interest began with 6 mares and 1 stallion. With the HMN seal since 2008, there are now 32 horses and they are part of a structure dedicated to breeding horses for training and competition in dressage and, in parallel, to developing equestrian tourism within the Herdade da Malhadinha Nova hotel project and, finally, for sale.

Riding the horses Coeso, Kleber and Conquistador, this Portuguese equestrian has collected various prizes over the years, in the Portugal Dressage Cup, National Teaching Competition and Projeto Cavalos Novos (Young Horse Project), organised by the Portuguese Association of Pure Blood Lusitano Breeders (APCCPSL).
