The second edition of Mateus Maria da Malhadinha 2023 pays tribute to the youngest member of the family. Practically opaque, it displays an aromatic profile different from the other reds of the house, with notes of black and blue fruit, well-integrated toasted oak, enveloped by a smoky mineral background. On the palate, it is a full-bodied wine with firm but ripe tannins and a long finish. A wine with great ageing potential.
Grapes harvested manually into 12 kg boxes and carefully selected on the sorting table. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled vats with several punch-downs throughout the process. Aged for 14 months in new and used French oak barrels and terracotta amphorae.
The 80 hectares of vines sprout on the gentle slopes of drained schist soil, inserted into the terroir and respecting and integrating into the existing ecosystem and biodiversity.
