The city of Beja will host the official launch of the European City of Wine 2026, on a day entirely dedicated to wine, vineyards, and the promotion of the Lower Alentejo in the European wine scene. Thirteen municipalities in the Lower Alentejo will compete for this title throughout the year: Aljustrel, Almodôvar, Alvito, Barrancos, Beja, Castro Verde, Cuba, Ferreira do Alentejo, Mértola, Moura, Ourique, Serpa, and Vidigueira.
