Día de los Muertos is an indigenous tradition celebrated throughout Mexico. It is believed that on this day, deceased relatives and loved ones return to life to reunite with their families, who prepare a beautiful celebration in their honour and as a tribute to their memory. On the day of your arrival at Malhadinha Nova, we promise to bring all the joy and magic of this celebration to make your experience begin in the best possible way.

Arrival at the Estate
Start this experience in a delightfully spooky way with special treats prepared by our team of chefs, using ingredients from our own estate and transformed into skulls, spiders, bats, snakes, and the most terrifying creatures our kitchen team can conjure up.

3 pm.
IDiscover Malhadinha’s pottery studio in a Día de los Muertos-themed workshop, where you’ll have the opportunity to work with clay from our own land to create spooky skulls, pumpkins, spiders, or other Día de los Muertos or Halloween-inspired creations of your choice.

8h30 pm.
Discover the Malhadinha Nova restaurant and enjoy a themed dinner prepared by our team of chefs, inspired by Mexican cuisine and infused with its vibrant flavours, while celebrating the organic and locally sourced ingredients from our estate and the surrounding region.

9h30 pm.
There is no better way to discover this deeply meaningful tradition than by watching Coco, a heartwarming yet entertaining musical that tells a story of tradition, passion, and music. Enjoy a cosy movie night in our exclusive cinema room at Ancoradouro, complete with freshly made popcorn and your choice of drinks to warm you up or cool you down on this first evening.

As Ireland is widely recognised as the birthplace of the traditions that gave rise to what we know today as Halloween, we dedicate the second day of our programme to Ireland and some of the most well-known customs associated with this celebration.

8h30 - 11 am.
Enjoy our breakfast, featuring organic produce from our estate, while taking in the breathtaking views of the infinity pools overlooking the vast Alentejo plains.

11 am.
Discover our estate and the story behind this family-run project on a ride in our haunted jeeps, taking you past some of the many animals that roam freely across our land. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit our winery and learn about the unique winemaking process at Malhadinha Nova, before enjoying a tasting at our tavern.

11h30 am.
For our younger guests, we’ve prepared a spooky treasure hunt filled with surprises and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered in the thousand and one secret hiding places scattered throughout our estate.

12h30 am.
Join us for an Irish-inspired picnic lunch among our vineyards, where you can spend the early afternoon immersed in nature and surrounded by the beauty of the Alentejo landscape. Savour some of the most delicious flavours of autumn, carefully brought to you for this special occasion.

3 pm.
Decorating pumpkins with spooky designs is also a beloved Halloween tradition. This year, at Malhadinha Nova, we invite you to join a workshop that promises to be as creative as it is delicious. We’ll show you how to create your very own spooky pumpkins and transform their insides into delicious recipes, making the most of every part of this seasonal favourite.

Put your aim to the test in a fun archery activity led by our Experiences Team.

8 pm.
Enjoy a spine-chilling dinner at our restaurant, illuminated by candlelight from antique candelabras, accompanied by live music to fill your evening with magic and enchantment.

Although Halloween originated in the United Kingdom, the United States is one of the countries where this celebration is most widely embraced. On the final day of our programme, we take inspiration from the classic film Monsters, Inc. to ensure your stay comes to a spooktacular end, filled with fun and festive moments!

8h30 - 11 am.
Wake up to another Malhadinha Nova breakfast, celebrating the vibrant colours and flavours of the fruits and vegetables grown on our estate, alongside traditional homemade bread, freshly baked cakes, and a selection of local cheeses and cured meats.

10 am.
Because not all monsters are scary, our Experiences Team will join you at breakfast dressed as your favourite characters from Monsters, Inc., with face painting and plenty of fun to make your morning extra special! 

10h30 am.
To bring this experience to a thrilling close, we’ve prepared an exhilarating adventure by quad bike and off-road jeep, giving you the perfect opportunity to say goodbye to the breathtaking Alentejo landscapes and end your Halloween getaway on an unforgettable high!
