Respect for the environment and environmental sustainability

Organic farming

Sustainable and extensive

At Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, respect for the environment and environmental sustainability are the guiding lines of action from the very beginning. Environmental sustainability, extending to the social and economic domain, is at the genesis of vineyard planting and occupies the top of the agricultural project properties. With human action reduced to a minimum, is practiced organic, sustainable and extensive agriculture.

Keeping Alentejo traditions alive, olive oil, honey and horticultural products are produced in the existing organic vegetable gardens and greenhouses, while native breeds are raised in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural environment.

Through a constant and fruitful dialogue with nature and the environment, the MicroBioWines project, which studies the impact on winemaking processes, represents a natural step towards environmental sustainability.

Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is part of the Alentejo Wines Sustainability Programme, the only programme in Portugal that promotes the implementation of sustainable measures across several areas of activity, namely reducing water consumption, adopting environmental preservation measures, improving working conditions and respecting the ecosystem. Malhadinha Nova is among the first ten producers in the country to receive this Sustainable Production seal.

Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is also covered by the Sustainable Travel Pledge promoted by UNESCO. This distinction aims to promote sustainable travel, community resilience and the conservation of environmental heritage.

Holder of the Biosphere Certification, a recognition based on sustainable practices across all areas of operation — from viticulture, winemaking, agriculture and tourism — Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is also certified under the ISO 9001 standard by Bureau Veritas. This certification enables us to continuously strengthen our commitment to excellence in processes and management.

Herdade da Malhadinha Nova has also become the first certified hospitality project in Portugal to obtain B Corp™ recognition, assuming a pioneering position within the national hospitality sector and joining a global community of companies that meet verified standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.

These certifications reflect an ongoing commitment to quality, innovation and environmental responsibility.
